Custom engineering and integration

 

  • NICE™ Digital Video Recorder integration. Completed project to provide web based viewing of stored and live video feeds from video recording system.
  • AMAG ACAMS integration. This uses web service interface to integrate alarm information to the SiteIQ product.
  • Tool development. Develop and refine tools used by Professional Services organization to install and configure the product.

Senior Engineer                                 2004 – Present

Member of PC Tools group with primary responsibility for windows device drivers and PC data I/O. Primary users are end users of phones and factory test/manufacturing.

 

  • Resolve lockup issues with production programming device locking up when used with USB 2.0 host controller and hubs.

 

  • Refactor existing download driver to be compliant with Microsoft certification process. Create additional drivers for new products.

  • Total Billings Inc. – Fayetteville, NC

Total Billings is a service company specializing in rendering and finishing billings for municipalities, utilities, and companies wishing to outsource their billing functions.

 

Software Engineer                             2002 – 2004

Responsibilities included SQL server administration, web server administration and backup network administration. Also created special tools as needed using C# and C++ for maintenance tasks and data import from specific customers.

 

  • Resolved conflict with Software vendor by formulating problem resolution plan with vendor management.

 

  • Integrate Postal tracking system to web application.

 

  • Integrate printing and mailing software supporting high speed printing system and intelligent inserting software with existing document management software.

    Extend functionality of internal production management software by modifying existing web based application.This application runs under IIS, and is written in Visual Basic, HTML and Java Script. Functional improvements included automatic data entry from DB2 Database, and HTML based file upload from clients.

 

Infinite Technology Inc. – Raleigh, NC

ITI is a software engineering firm with specialization in call centers, telecommunications, and network management.

 

 

 

Software Engineer                             1999 – 2002

Responsibilities included requirement analysis, architecture, design, implementation and team leadership. Also estimate effort and risks for bidding process.

  • Developed custom VxWorks SMTP mail implementation handling unique customer requirements for the transfer of voice mail to and from multimedia message service center meeting customer schedule requirements.
  • Lead multiple software teams producing software for Symbian based PDA/Phone device. Architected and led implementation and integration of telephony features and software upgrades. Designed and coded USB functionality for SA-1110 to run under bootstrap monitor.
  • Developed initial concept, Architecture, requirements, and functional demonstration system for an innovative wireless framework product.
  • Resolved customer need for demonstrator software for new product by porting a graphics and communication intensive application to Symbian Quartz OS.
  • Responded to changed hardware addressing for a network status application running under Solaris that communicates with SS7 node simulators by modifying communication protocol so that existing system could be reused.
  • Established successful lab for porting applications for CeBit Computer show. Integrated show devices, assisted third party developers, and provided support at CeBit. Device received innovative design award at show.

 

Rogue Wave Software – Stingray Division – Raleigh, NC

The Stingray division of Rogue Wave Software provides source code used by windows developers.

 

 

 

Software Engineer                             1998 -1999

Responsibilities were to implement features, design classes and architecture, also some responsibility for customer support.

 

  • Developed features for Objective Studio products on rigorous schedule. Designed and implemented new look menu, hyperlink tool, persistence subsystem, toolbar improvements, and maintained existing code. Product won Jolt Productivity award.
  • Met requirements for multiple processor support under Microsoft Windows CE by updating make file generation system shipped with product.
  • On average resolved between forty and sixty usage issues for customers each week.

 

First Logic Inc – Raleigh, NC

First Logic’s PostalSoft group produces direct mailing list management products for list maintenance, zip sorting, data integrity screening and mailing label production.

 

Software Engineer                             1997 - 1998

My responsibilities were architecture, design, and implementation of updated product. Re-factor product for maintainability.

 

  • Designed and implemented barcode printing, custom print and preview, page description template language for label layout, label and report page description macro language, search and replace, and User interface components.
  • Created report generation subsystem to provide print and print preview capabilities for formatted ASCII reports. Subsystem adapted into multiple products.

 

Bell + Howell – Raleigh, NC

Bell + Howell’s mail and messaging technologies group produces high speed document processing machinery for mail assembly, sorting, printing and other applications.

 

Research Project Engineer               1994 – 1997 – Raleigh, NC

Senior Technical Specialist               1990 – 1994 – Allentown, PA

Designed and implemented systems to answer corporate needs. Sought out new technologies and evaluated their maturity and suitability for use.  Consulting asset within the corporation for product and process improvement.

  • Established problem management system. Responsible for significant (>20%) reduction in chronic deficiencies by providing feedback to engineering.
  • Automated product performance measurement system. Identified and resolved serious production problems in major product introduction.
  • Performed statistical analysis of product maintainability and reliability characteristics using existing corporate data (Data mining). Identified and resolved problems resulting in more than $500,000 in first 18 months. Research department created to expand this effort.

 

Senior Training Instructor                 1984 – 1990 – Chicago, IL

  • Designed, implemented, and taught training programs for service technicians and other trainers.
  • Designed maintenance courseware for the Postal Service national training center for the CFS-II system. This system handles all forwarded letter mail.
  • Write portions of the USPS training manual for the CFS-II Mechanized Terminal (Maintenance Series Handbook MS-120 Vol. A, part 2 of 2). This manual was written to conform to USPS specifications.
